Ready for something big? INNOVATION: AMAZONE Precea-TCC trailed precision air seeder

AMAZONE is expanding its range of precision seeders with the new trailed models, Precea 9000-TCC and 12000-TCC, in working widths of 9 and 12 m respectively. This variant, which has been developed specially for large-scale farms and contractors, stands out with its high-performance overpressure singling, large tank capacities and innovative Central Seed Supply seed delivery system. The high-precision seed placement ensures optimum field emergence, even at increased working speeds of up to 15 km/h.

Central hopper concept ‒ row-by-row singling
For exceptionally high work rates and reduced fill times, the new Precea-TCC models feature a central seed hopper with a capacity of 2,000 l for up to two big bags. The new Central Seed Supply seed delivery system carries the seed from the central hopper to the singling units via an air stream. There, the seed for each row is temporarily stored in a small reception unit. Once this reception unit reaches the maximum fill level, the air stream is automatically cut off by the stored seed, shutting off any further supply. When the fill level decreases again, the air stream restarts automatically and conveys new seed from the main hopper to the individual rows. Thanks to the intelligent air stream system of the Central Seed Supply, every singling unit is independently supplied with seed, without the need for complex sensor systems or electronic controls.

Precise singling across all rows
For seed singling, AMAZONE uses its high-precision PreTeC singling units, which function based on the overpressure principle. This means the seed is pressed against the singling disc by air pressure. The seal rotates along with the singling disc, which considerably reduces the power consumption of the electric drives for the individual rows. The remotely controlled, automatic SmartControl stripper finger adjustment is coupled with the optical sensors and effectively prevents any misses or doubles. Meanwhile, the electrically-driven singling disc turns in relation to the forward speed and desired seed rate; conveying the seed towards the propulsion channel. At this point, the contact pressure is broken, and the seed is shot precisely into the seed furrow, caught by the catcher roller, and securely embedded.

The furrow formers ensure the precise seed placement. Two carrying rollers and the high, hydraulically adjustable coulter pressure ensure uniform depth control. For even greater convenience, AMAZONE offers SmartForce automatic coulter pressure regulation. This ensures that the set contact force remains constant for a consistently uniform seed placement, especially in variable soil conditions.

The ElectricDrive electric metering drive allows the desired seed rate to be conveniently set via the ISOBUS terminal and serves as the basis for precise, part-area, site-specific rate control using GPS and field zone maps. In addition, the GPS SectionControl actively saves seed row-by-row in wedge-shaped fields and on headlands, especially at these larger working widths, and provides optimal conditions for mechanical weed control with a hoe.

CurveControl ‒ Optimised seed placement when driving round bends
The electric drive for the individual rows also make it possible to maintain evenly spaced placement across the entire working width. A yaw sensor is used to calculate the difference between the forward speed on the inside and outside of the bend. The innovative CurveControl then adjusts the speed of the each singling disc accordingly, ensuring that the seed spacing remains uniform, even around bends. The even spacing allows the plants to be adequately supplied with nutrients. This results in homogeneous crops and ensures even ripening.

Twin-chamber hopper for fertiliser
For the simultaneous application of fertiliser, the Precea-TCC is equipped with an easily accessible twin-chamber hopper with a total filling volume of 6,000 l. Each hopper has its own electric metering unit that is connected to a distributor head, meaning that half-side shut-off is available as standard. Fertiliser is placed via the FerTeC twin HD fertiliser coulter. The relationship between the placement depth of the fertiliser and the sowing depth is set only once. If the sowing depth is subsequently changed, the fertiliser automatically adjusts the fertiliser placement depth accordingly.

Telescopic running gear
The Precea-TCC is offered with 12 or 16 rows for row widths of 70, 75 and 80 cm. A telescopic axle is available for the running gear of the Precea. During field operation, this allows the position of over-sized tyres to be adjusted so that the wheels run between the seed rows, preventing compaction directly beneath the seed rows. With the wheels fully retracted, the Precea-TCC can be conveniently transported by road with a total width of 3 m.

In the medium term, the programme will be rounded off with new models for those closer spaced row crops, such as beet, rape or soya beans, with row widths of 45 and 50 cm in 18 or 24 rows.

140 years of AMAZONE: “Ideas for our future”

2022_03_BM_140Jahre_out

When Heinrich Dreyer founded the company “H. Dreyer Factory for Agricultural Machinery and Equipment” in Gaste near Osnabrück on May 1st 1883, he was not to know that Amazone would eventually develop into one of the leading global manufacturers of agricultural machinery. This family-owned company has been offering innovative products to farmers for 140 years now

A success story

In 1883, the founder, Heinrich Dreyer, initially started with the production of a grain cleaning machine and soon realised: ‘We must go out into the world’. The first grain cleaning machines were sold to Valparaiso in Chile as early as 1906, thus forming the foundation for the strong export market enjoyed today by the Amazone Group. Heinrich Dreyer’s sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons have set significant milestones along the way, for product development and have continued the success story up to the present day. It was in the sixties, in particular, that the ZA mounted twin disc fertiliser spreader and the legendary D4 seed drill developed into genuine best-sellers. The production facilities need to be expanded, and this led to the creation of the first branch, the factory in Hude near Oldenburg, which, in 2009, was expanded to become the Hude-Altmoorhausen facility aimed at the production of modern high-performance seeding systems. With their entry into the field of soil tillage, Amazone was the first manufacturer to develop PTO-driven equipment for working in combination with its seed drills. In addition, since 1998, passive soil tillage machinery has been brought onto the market with its subsidiary, BBG in Leipzig.
As time went by, the Company had, more than once, to cope with difficult times. But the Dreyer family, across all its generations, was always able to keep the company on a solid path of continuous growth. Production was expanded continuously and the product range was supplemented to include more and more areas of competence. The Amazone takeover of the plough manufacturer, Vogel & Noot, in Mosonmagyaróvár, Hungary in 2016 markedly expanded both its soil tillage range and manufacturing capacity. To supplement the factories in Gaste and Leeden, a new production facility in Bramsche, to the North of Osnabrück, was opened in 2018. Modern assembly halls offer lots of space for a wide range of production variants, large-scale machinery production and general optimisation of logistics for the three factories. Schmotzer Hacktechnik, a company with its roots in mechanical weeding systems and with its headquarters in Bad Windsheim, has been part of the group since 2019. This represented an important step in the expansion within the field of crop protection.

Developing the values of the past into the future

Dreyer_Christian_Justus_d0_kw_Q2072850
From left: Christian Dreyer and Dr. Justus Dreyer (Chairman of the Management Board/owner of the Amazone Group)

These days, the core competences of Amazone are the active and passive soil tillage ranges, seed drills and precision seeders, fertiliser spreaders and crop protection sprayers. An additional mainstay is the production of groundcare machinery for parks and lawn maintenance along with winter road gritting, located in the facility in Forbach/France. In the last financial year of 2022, the Amazone Group comprised of nine production facilities and employed a total of over 2,000 staff. The export percentage was of the order of 80 % in 2022. The headquarters and main production facility of the Amazone Group still remains today in Gaste, in the district of Hasbergen near Osnabrück. The shares of the company are wholly owned by the Dreyer family. Since the fate of the group was controlled for more than 50 years by Prof. h.c. Dr. Dr. h.c. Heinz Dreyer (died 17th February 2023) and his cousin Klaus Dreyer, the responsibility has rested for many years with the 4th. generation in the form of the current two owners, Christian Dreyer and Dr. Justus Dreyer. “We intend to continue the ground-breaking success across the history of our company, so that farming worldwide can rely on our innovative solutions for intelligent crop production” say the two owners. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to our predecessors. We want to sustainably develop the values that they have created and at the same time purposefully tackle the challenges of the future. Our thanks also go to the members of our families, to our customers, employees, sales partners and importers, suppliers and to all those who have contributed to the success of the company by their personal effort and extensive commitment.”

Ongoing growth in planning

The founder Heinrich Dreyer with the historic company logo from the years of rapid industrial growth in Germany and the latest Amazone Precea precision air seeder.

Clever planning and investing for a successful sustainable future, and not short-term profit thinking, will continue to characterise the philosophy of the company. In this way, the owners continue with the aim to expand Amazone’s production capacities in accordance with the organic growth, and continuously to modernise existing manufacturing and logistics processes. At the same time, Amazone will concentrate on developing partnerships, both at home and abroad, in order to acquire additional market share in all areas of competence, across all the important world markets. “When developing new technology, we concentrate primarily on the requirements of our customers, whilst, at the same time, recognising, in good time, the demands of the future. This approach has proven to be successful in the past”, says Dr. Justus Dreyer. To better service our customers, it is also increasingly important to accompany the increasingly complex agricultural machines and processes with even better advice and support. This includes, amongst other things, Amazone continuing to expand the new test farm in Wambergen at the Hasbergen-Gaste facility. A long-term arable farming field trial, going by the name of Controlled Row Farming (CRF), is currently being used there to present a new row-based arable farming system. The company is continuously intensifying its comprehensive training offerings.
As has always been, we also take on the responsibility for the people employed by the company and their families. “On the one hand, this means the retention and ongoing development of workplaces. On the other hand, we realise that the company needs motivated and qualified employees to remain in a leading position in the development of new technology and to be able continuously to produce optimum quality”, explains Christian Dreyer.

Ideas for our future

In viewing the future development of the Amazone product programme, the owners see the demands of the economy and ecology as the most important tasks. “We would like to make a decisive contribution to world nutrition, and to help our farmers, with innovative ideas, to continue to be capable of handling the future in a sustainable way”, says Dr. Justus Dreyer by way of explanation, on the background of the great challenges facing professional farming these days. On the one hand, agriculture needs to produce high-quality food to feed the growing world population. On the other hand, the amount of arable land on which food can be produced is being reduced. This is exacerbated by climate change with extreme weather conditions. “We thus see three important tasks for ourselves and for farming, which are naturally interlinked: Protecting valuable resources, continuously reducing the use of inputs, increased precision for sustainability and cost-efficiency whilst simultaneously maintaining a high level of yield”, continues Christian Dreyer. Amazone is therefore continuing to pursue the core goal of a high yield per hectare yet through sustainable methods. It is therefore important to improve the efficiency of the production processes and to treat each plant as precisely as possible. At the same time, increasing biodiversity and retention of soil fertility must be important goals, in order to offer sustainable, good, long-term prospects for the generations to come.

In order to comply even better with the ecological requirements, Amazone will concentrate, amongst other things, on pushing the area of Amazone 4.0 by the sensible use of electronics. The use of GPS technology, sensor systems, software and other instruments are thus intended to extend the possibilities of part-area, site-specific, individual plant based working. The owners intend to extend the successful machinery range with the aim of being able, in future, to offer the right technology and processes, for not only any region with its own individual special needs, but also for any size of business and cropping. An important basis for this is the expansion carried out in the internal trials programme across the international arena, in cooperation with scientific institutions, consultants and agricultural practitioners.

More flexible and faster in future

“We are concentrating on Amazone being able to serve its customers optimally in the future. It continues to be important to be more flexible, more reliable and to act faster than the others” sum up the owners with regard to the challenges. “This requires us to meet the requirements of the customer, time and again, and to develop innovative technologies. For agricultural machinery and farming, which is system-relevant worldwide in order to feed the population, we see positive, long-term prospects and we are thus looking to the future with optimism.”

New AMAZONE Tyrok 400 Onland semi-mounted reversible plough

AMAZONE is now offering the Tyrok 400 semi-mounted reversible plough for on land ploughing. The Tyrok Onland provides a high level of flexibility as a result of the quick and easy change between either on land or in-furrow operation. The new models are offered with a choice of 7, 8 or 9 furrows for tractors of up to 400 hp.

Easy change between on land and in-furrow
The tractor size and the size of the tyres determine, amongst other things, its operation in the furrow or on and beside the furrow. Specifically, its use with tracks, dual wheels or extra wide tyres larger than 710 mm does not permit driving in the furrow without compaction damage on soil which has already been partly ploughed.

A major advantage of on land ploughing is the reduced soil pressure as a result of the large contact area of the wide tractor tyres and the possibility of being able to work with a lower tyre pressure. This means that considerably less compaction damage is caused and the formation of any plough pan is prevented. Furthermore, on land operation provides an improved pull line as a result of the reduced lateral pull and more efficient power transmission. GPS guidance systems can also be used for maximum working comfort and precise match-up to the next furrow. Constant depth control is provided via the front guide wheel, which runs permanently on the unworked soil.

Other factors, such as the soil conditions, have a critical impact on the method of ploughing. A quicker and easier change between on land and in-furrow operation is therefore extremely important. If the soil surface in the field does not allow for optimum traction as a result of rain or wet conditions, quick conversion to in-furrow operation is possible at any time. A throw of the hydraulic lever on the turnover arm is all that is required for this.

Pure robustness without compromise
The Tyrok Onland has a substantial, high-tensile steel rectangular beam with dimensions of 200x150x10 mm. This gives the Tyrok Onland an extremely high level of rigidity. A decisive advantage over a square beam is that the beam does not bend, even under hard ground conditions. This ensures a uniform working depth over the entire length and working width, which is crucial, especially at the larger working widths.

The Tyrok Onland also scores points with the SmartTurn system. On the headland, the fast turning procedure is hydraulically slowed down two-fold just before the end. This results in a damping effect which reduces stress on the plough structure when the cylinder is retracted. There is no need to compromise on speed as in the Onland variant, the "beam" is automatically retracted before the turnover process via the Onland cylinder, so that the turnover centre of gravity is as low as possible and so the forces acting on the tractor and plough are kept to a minimum.

Plough bodies meticulously thought-through – SpeedBlade for less wear
The SpeedBlade plough body, with its patented extra-large front shin on the mouldboard, makes for minimal wear on the shin. The main wear point automatically shifts further and further back towards the centre of the plough body by increasing the working speed from say 6 km/h up to 8 km/h. As a result, the main wear point is kept on this enlarged front shin of the mouldboard and away from the main mouldboard, even at high forward speeds; various slatted and solid mouldboard profiles are available depending on the application and objective.

Another detail with great effect: the point covers the blade, meaning that the joint is protected by the point. Thanks to this clever join up, no plant residues or baler twine can get entangled.

AMAZONE sets the highest standards in the manufacture of plough wearing parts with its unique ©plus hardening process. The additional introduction of carbon makes Tyrok wearing parts far harder and more durable.

Safe, comfortable and precise adjustment for a perfect working profile
The Tyrok Onland is equipped with mechanical furrow width adjustment as standard. As an option, the working width can be infinitely adjusted hydraulically from the comfort of the tractor cab to suit the conditions. The front furrow adjustment can also be provided mechanically or hydraulically. An advantage here is the direct linkage of the front furrow cylinder at the front of the plough for precise matching to the last furrow.
